‘The Lord of the Rings’ will get a sequel
By JOSH EDELSON and JOHN MACONAMY-BANNONThe new movie adaptation of the Tolkien fantasy novel The Lord of The Rings: The Two Towers, directed by Christopher McQuarrie, will be released on March 9, 2018.
The movie is based on the first book in the series The Lord Of The Rings trilogy.
The Hobbit and Lord Of the Rings films, by the way, have sold about 80 million copies worldwide, according to BoxOfficeMojo.
McQuarries Lord of THE RINGS trilogy is the third film in the trilogy to be adapted.
The first was in 2006’s The Lord And The Rings.
The other two films were adaptations of the books The Lord’s Tale and The Lord Thesaur.
In addition to McQuarys Lord of Rohan film, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and The Hobbit films, Warner Bros. is developing the adaptation of The Lord Joffrey and the Knights of the Round Table for a 2019 release.
In a statement, Warner Brothers said the Lord of Rings films are among the most popular films of all time and that they have “over 50 Oscar nominations for their creative and imaginative use of Middle Earth mythology and stories.”
McRaney and McQuaries films will be joined by The Hobbit in 2019.
“It was a thrill to see Christopher McRaney take on this extraordinary and important role and to see his vision come to life in a film as rich and as exciting as The Lord Rohan,” Warner Bros’ Chris Morgan said.
“It’s a huge honour to be working with Christopher on the adaptation, and we’re thrilled to be able to bring this great world to life.”
McQuary’s Lord of A Ring, a Tolkien novel set about the Lord’s quest to retrieve the Ring from Bilbo Baggins, opens March 9.
